Craft
- Was the ending earned or arranged?
- What would be lost if this were told from another point of view?
- Where did the pacing sag, and did it matter?
- Was the setting a place or just scenery?
- Did the title do any work?

Running the discussion
Two rules save most book clubs: nobody speaks twice until everyone has spoken once, and the person who chose the book speaks last. It stops the loudest opinion from setting the frame.
Ask everyone to bring one marked passage. A discussion anchored to specific pages goes somewhere; a discussion of general impressions does not — which is a good argument for saving quotes as you read rather than hunting for them the night before.
