Terms of Service

Last updated: July 30, 2026

1. Acceptance of Terms

By using Shelfies ("the Service"), you agree to these Terms. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. Nothing in these Terms limits rights you have under mandatory consumer law in your country — where a clause here conflicts with those rights, those rights win.

2. Description of Service

Shelfies is a personal book tracking app. It lets you organize a reading library, track progress and reading sessions, set goals, keep notes and reviews, follow other readers, and use AI-assisted recommendations and summaries.

3. User Accounts

  • You need a valid email address to create an account.
  • You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure.
  • You must be at least 13, or the minimum age for consent to online services where you live, whichever is higher.
  • Please keep to one account per person.

4. Free & Pro Plans

  • Free: book tracking, shelves, reading goals, and basic statistics.
  • Pro: AI recommendations, summaries and reading plans, advanced analytics, premium themes, and further features.

Which features sit in each tier can change as the app develops. If we move a feature you already paid for out of your plan, we will tell you before it takes effect.

5. Purchases, Billing & Cancellation

  • Pro is available as a weekly, monthly, or annual subscription, and as a one-time Lifetime purchase. Not every option is offered in every country or on every platform.
  • In the Android app, purchases are processed by Google Play and are governed by Google's payment terms. On the web, purchases are processed by Stripe.
  • Prices shown in the app are the ones your store returns for your country and currency, including tax where the store includes it.
  • Subscriptions renew automatically until cancelled. Cancel in Google Play (Android) or in your account settings (web). Cancelling stops the next renewal; you keep access until the end of the period you have paid for.
  • A free trial, where one is offered, converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial unless you cancel before it ends. The length and availability of any trial are shown at the moment of purchase and are set by the store.
  • "Lifetime" means a single payment with no recurring charge, for as long as we operate the Service. It is not a guarantee that the Service will run forever. See section 11.

6. Refunds & Withdrawal

Refunds for purchases made through Google Play or Stripe are handled under those providers' policies — start there, as they hold the transaction.

If you are a consumer in the EU, EEA, or UK, you have a statutory right to withdraw from a purchase within 14 days. Because digital content is supplied immediately, you are asked to agree that supply begins right away, which ends the withdrawal right for content already delivered — this is required by law to be made clear, and it is why the store shows that notice at checkout. Your statutory rights for faulty or misdescribed digital content are unaffected.

7. Your Content

You keep ownership of everything you add to Shelfies — book entries, notes, quotes, reviews, shelves, and posts. You grant us a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to store, reproduce, and display that content solely to operate the Service for you and, where you choose to share it, to show it to the readers you shared it with. This licence ends when you delete the content or your account, apart from copies retained in routine backups until they rotate out.

8. Community Rules

Shelfies has public profiles, an activity feed, comments, and reactions. When you post or interact with other readers, do not:

  • Harass, threaten, bully, or impersonate anyone.
  • Post hateful, sexually explicit, or violent content, or anything sexualizing minors.
  • Post spam, scams, or unsolicited promotion.
  • Post content you do not have the right to share, including pirated book text.
  • Share other people's private information.

You can block a user or report content from within the app. We review reports and may remove content or restrict accounts that break these rules. Where we remove your content or restrict your account, we will tell you the reason and you can contest the decision by contacting us.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Use the Service for any unlawful purpose.
  • Attempt to gain unauthorized access to any part of the Service or another user's account.
  • Interfere with or disrupt the Service or its infrastructure.
  • Use automated systems to scrape or bulk-access the Service without our permission.
  • Attempt to circumvent payment, entitlement, or usage limits.

You may reverse engineer the Service only to the extent that applicable law gives you that right and our permission cannot lawfully be required.

10. AI Features

AI recommendations, summaries, and reading plans are generated automatically and can be wrong, incomplete, or invent details about a book. Treat them as suggestions, not facts, and check anything that matters. AI features depend on a third-party provider and may change or be unavailable.

11. Intellectual Property

The Shelfies name, logo, designs, and code are ours. Book cover images and metadata belong to their respective publishers and rights holders and are used for identification.

12. Availability & Changes to the Service

We aim to keep Shelfies running and available, but we may change, suspend, or discontinue features. If we discontinue the Service entirely, we will give reasonable notice, provide a way to export your library, and offer a pro-rata refund for the unused part of any subscription and a fair refund for a recent Lifetime purchase, as required by applicable law.

13. Disclaimers

Except for warranties that cannot be excluded by law — including the statutory guarantees consumers have for digital content — the Service is provided "as is" and "as available", and we do not warrant that it will be uninterrupted, error-free, or fit for a particular purpose.

14. Limitation of Liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, we are not liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages, or for lost data or profits. Nothing here limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be limited. Where liability can be limited, our total liability is capped at the greater of the amount you paid us in the 12 months before the claim, or EUR 50.

15. Termination

You may delete your account at any time. We may suspend or terminate an account for a serious or repeated breach of these Terms, giving notice and a reason where the law requires it. If we terminate your account without cause, we will refund the unused part of any subscription. On termination your right to use the Service ends, and you should export your library first if you want to keep it.

16. Governing Law & Disputes

These Terms are governed by the law of the country in which Shelfies is established. If you are a consumer, this does not deprive you of the protection of the mandatory law of your own country of residence, and you may bring proceedings in the courts there.

We would much rather sort a problem out directly — contact us first and we will try to resolve it. EU consumers may also use the European Commission's online dispute resolution platform.

17. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms. For changes that materially affect your rights or what you pay, we will notify you in the app in advance, and you may cancel before they take effect. Continued use after that constitutes acceptance.

18. Contact
